Make Way for Ducklings

Not-Smart-Enough-for-College-78

School’s pretty much in full swing. For lots of kids it’s an exciting time to reconnect with friends and get into a more familiar groove with in person school, even with the new routines around mandates and safety precautions.

It can also be a stressful time as well. Research highlights that some stress actually helps kids perform better but can be debilitating when it’s too intense, goes on too long, and there isn’t enough support from caring adults or time to relax and recover.

It doesn’t take much to help our kids get away and de-stress. After school on a Friday night, Cal and I took a drive with a couple of our grandkids. We felt the stress of the week drop away as a cool breeze blew down the canyon, a baby duck waddled over to make friends with Cal, and we settled into the rhythm of a fly fisherman casting out across the lake while we watched the sun dip towards sunset.

Where do you go and what do you do to help your kids feel your support and reset their stress levels?

Here’s to more resilient wins at home and school,
