Failing Forward in Real Time

Not Smart Enough for College (98)

That definitely did not turn out as planned.

Sue Diamond, a wonderful supporter, wrote to tell me that she loves our emails but had to give up trying to read last week’s post because the font was too small.

I wrote back and told her I really appreciated her support and suggestion and would make sure the font size was increased.

I mentioned Sue’s experience to our granddaughter, Camille, who helps us with the tech to get our emails out to you. She was happy to oblige and took immediate action.

The next morning, this past Tuesday, I eagerly opened our post, The Great Potato Chip Escapade. Imagine my surprise when I  saw that the font had indeed been changed, but made even smaller!

Hopefully all of you had your magnifying lenses handy or were tech savvy enough to know how to enlarge the font on your own screen. So sorry about our mixup, and hopefully none of you suffered irreparable eye strain.

I’m still not sure where our communication went wrong, and it doesn’t really matter. I wrote back to Sue to let her know we did not purposefully try to torture her with an ever shrinking font size. She appreciated the explanation and enjoyed a little laugh along with us over our tech follies.

The important point, as always, is to be ready to happily fail forward, even when our mistakes are out there in public for all to see.

This experience served as a good reminder to me that as parents let’s be sure we make good use of all our mistakes. They are a goldmine of opportunity to model for our kids how to learn from our experiences, recover as gracefully as possible, and move forward.

Please accept our apologies, and I really, really hope that this email comes to you in a comfortably large font!

Thanks again Sue for taking the time to write. We appreciate your support and are glad you enjoy reading our posts.

Happy Failing Forward,

Anne
