More Fun = More Success
Want less stress and more success with your kids at home and school?
Are you serious about it?
Then try more laughter and playfulness.
What?
Yes, you read that right.
Humor is a great antidote to stress.
It’s also contagious and helps us let down our defenses and connect more easily with each other.
It’s what we’re talking about with our founding members this week in Conquering Homework in Middle School.
Everyday stress from homework and chores, gaming and Tik Tok can drive a wedge between us. Plenty of good natured fun can bring us back together.
Cal shared a story with the group this week about a little experience we had recently in our family. Some of our kids and grandkids were over and he was holding Ayla, our newest great-granddaughter.
He was playfully trying to get her attention. He started laughing, she started laughing back. The more he laughed, the more she laughed. Her mom came over to see what was going on, then others joined in and wanted to be part of the fun.
Not even our cool tweens and teens could resist.
It wasn’t a bad day before we all started laughing together, but there sure was a better feeling all around afterwards. A feeling that lasted.
As we were talking about this in the group this week, one of the moms said, “But, I always thought that some people have a good sense of humor and others, well, just don’t.”
A quick look at the research confirms that humor is a skill all of us can learn and get better at when we’re willing to put in a little effort and give it a try.
And that’s exactly what this mom decided to do.
We can’t wait to hear from her next week and find out what happens!
That’s one of the keys to success in the Conquering Homework program, a willingness to experiment with new ways of interacting with our tweens and teens and discover what helps them move forward with less stress and more success at home and school.
