Tangled
After two years of neglect, I tackled the overgrown forsythia bush in my backyard.
I could blame my sore knee or the tendonitis in my wrist, but whatever the reasons, I still let it grow wild, branches shooting out high and wide, criss crossing over each other every which way, taking over the side yard, smothering the roses…
So, armed with a sun hat, gloves, and a big pair of pruning loppers, I set about bringing some order, taming and retraining branches, clearing away dead wood, opening it up to new and better possibilities.
That’s when it hit me. The forsythia’s bad growth habits are the least of my challenges. I have developed a few of my own out of control “bad” habits these past couple of years. I could blame covid or quarantine, but whatever the reasons, I still let friendships wither, dreams slip away, poor time management take over, smothering my plans…
So, armed with new resolve, I’m setting about putting my life in better order. It’s hard work, but feels worth it.
Now that summer is here, and kids have fewer deadlines and pressures, maybe it’s a good time to sit down together and take an inventory, see what “bad habits” have creeped into our lives, then start pruning away, opening up to new possibilities.
Here’s to more resilient wins all summer long,
Anne
