Not-Smart-Enough-for-College-2022-07-06T220247.569

When I was 10 we moved to Berkeley. I was not a big fan of leaving our home on the beach in southern California for the misty fogs and steep hills  up north.

But there was one glorious compensation. I had my own room! And it had a marvelous walk in closet with a steep A frame ceiling and… drumroll… a pull chain light!

I was NOT interested in accumulating a massive wardrobe. I was in it for the possibility it offered of endless hours hidden away from our large, busy family, indulging in my guilty pleasure of undisturbed reading. A few pillows, a quilt, and I was off, chasing one adventure after another, visiting lands near and far through tales of the past, present and future.

I already had a stack of precious “friends,” beloved books I had read and re-read. Some had inscriptions in them, like the one you can see here from my grandparents; others had mysterious splotchy stains from tears, hot cocoa, popsicles, watermelon… you get the picture.

Do your kids or grandkids have treasured book “friends”?

If not, it’s never too late to start.

And a great way to start is by reading out loud together.

And a great time to start is now.

Adventures await!

Bon Voyage on your trip to Paris or for wherever you set your sails.

Happy Failing Forward,

Anne
