I Wonder…
What’s in that pool? Behind that rock? Under that bit of seaweed?
We like to poke along the shore, peering into the water, watching for movement, finding the glimmer.
Can you see the octopus?
This was an exciting super low tide day, revealing a world not usually in view, but even ordinary days hold treasures if you take a moment to be curious.
Sometimes it is a delicate living being, caught in a tide pool, waiting to return to the open sea; sometimes it’s something dead, also interesting in its own right. All part of the cycle.
What do you do when you go outside with your kids or grandkids?
Summer is a great time to slow down the pace, take time to notice, and be curious. Why are all those geese gathering at that end of the lake? Did you see those minnows? Wow! A red winged blackbird just landed on that willow over there! Can you see it?
Even our own backyard or neighborhood park can be full of unexpected delights when we pause long enough to savor the moments. Want your kids to be creative, lifelong learners? I know of no better way than to spark their curiosity. And the best way to light that spark is by showing them the joys of curiosity yourself.
Who knows where it will lead them? As Albert Einstein said, “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”
Here’s to more resilient wins all summer long,
Anne
