Mixed Up?

My Japanese Anenomes have been blooming for months. The lovely stalks are still covered with gorgeous cascades of white blossoms. Summer can’t be over quite yet.

But the Cotoneaster bushes are ripe with autumn red berries and the leaves of some of the trees have started to turn red, yellow, and orange.

And now it’s snowing, even though the leaves have not yet dropped.

It appears that even nature feels mixed up right now, and I do too. I haven’t done everything I wanted to do this summer. I’m definitely not ready for fall to be anywhere near over. And yet the furnace kicked on, it feels lovely to curl up with a book by the fire, and I’ll definitely need to find that snow shovel.

How is it in your life? And in your kids’ lives? All of us can feel overwhelmed at times by the changing seasons of the year and of life. It can be hard to know what to hold on to and what to give up. To figure out who I am and who I am becoming.

But here’s a secret, one of the great joys of life and parenting is helping our kids to be more resilient through the expected and unexpected challenges that can come at any time.

So enjoy it together! Curl up and start talking. Let your child know that you are now and always will be curious about them, and that it’s safe for them to let you know who they really are.

Here’s to more resilient wins at home and school,

Anne
