Red Dogs
You haven’t really lived until you’ve seen a Red Dog race around and around in a big circle, leap in the air for joy, butt a few heads, then plop down in an exhausted heap for at least 30 seconds before jumping up and doing it again.
I didn’t even know how much I was missing until we found a herd of bison with their newborns on the shore of Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. Yep, their 70 pound bundles of joy, bright red, and playful as a dog.
Made me want to get out and run around too, but, well, not right there, because papa is 6 feet tall and weighs 2,000 pounds, while mama stands a mere 4-5 feet tall and only weighs in at 1,000 pounds. I took the hint and was content to watch from the safety of our car.
But it did remind me to take delight in the fact that I am alive and able to frolic. Why don’t we do it more often?
What holds you back? Laundry to fold? Bills to pay? Emails to answer?
Maybe, just maybe, try putting that all aside for a minute, not forever, but for long enough to get out and be playful with your kids.
Could do you all a world of good.
And if you’re in the area, drop by Antelope Island and watch the Red Dogs play.
Fantastic.
Happy Failing Forward,
Anne
