Who Could Resist?
Who could resist such a happy smile?
Certainly not Cal’s teachers.
But in reality, by middle school that cute little Cal was in serious trouble. He had more and more difficulty making sense of what his teachers were presenting in class, let alone applying it and figuring out how to do his homework.
He did figure out a few tricks that helped him get by. He still had that winning smile, was polite, and didn’t cause too much trouble. He also had a knack for cracking the occasional well-timed joke, helping everyone have a good time and enjoy a laugh or two.
Tragically, neither he nor his teachers realized how much his personal challenges impacted his ability to keep up with the class.
Although clearly intelligent and willing to work, he was pulling in Cs and even Ds on a regular basis. His parents were loving and supportive. They didn’t get mad at him or put him down, just asked him if he was doing his best.
And he was.
He was doing the best he knew how to do, BUT IT WASN’T WORKING. He was getting further and further behind.
His parents were worried and wanted to help, but didn’t know how.
Many kids still struggle with homework even today, especially as they move into middle school. Fortunately, we know more now about how to best help them than Cal’s parents did in their day, and no one needs to go it alone.
That’s exactly what led us to the “big idea” we mentioned a few days ago. We are SO excited about this idea for helping middle school parents help their kids get their homework done with less stress and more success using all the tools and skills Cal’s mom and dad didn’t have when they wanted to help him.
Now this idea is still pretty “raw” (so please be gentle 😉 ).
However, did I mention that it’s got both Cal and me SUPER excited? And how we’d love to involve you?
Here’s the thing. Prior to this, in all our work with parents and families, we hadn’t ever really considered creating a space for parents to grow together, to learn and share and change their lives and the lives of their children OVER TIME on an ongoing basis.
But with this new idea we started to see a way to help parents move ahead with confidence, teach their kids how to get that homework done, plus finally have more time and energy to relax and enjoy family fun and connection.
Middle school can be difficult even in the best of times, and this past year has been incredibly challenging for kids and their families, many of whom continue to struggle with the disruptions and losses and the uncertainties that still lie ahead.
Yet life is moving on, kids are growing up, school is starting again…
So are you ready to get your middle schooler going:
From refusing to work, dragging their feet, resisting
TO MOTIVATED, ENGAGED, PRODUCTIVE
From frustration, hopelessness, endless fights about homework
TO TRUST, RESPECT, CONNECTION, HOPE
From chaos, disorder, underperforming, falling through the cracks
TO FOCUSED, ON TRACK, MOVING FORWARD
From brief moments of hope that quickly die
TO A SOLID PATHWAY THAT KEEPS ON WORKING
Like I said, even though it’s still raw, you see the potential, right?
Cal and I can’t stop thinking about where a community dedicated to helping parents help their kids get their homework done with less stress and more success could lead in 1 year, 3 years, or even 5 years from now.
THAT’S what gets us excited.
It’s the progress for all of us made possible by staying together with such a tight focus - that’s what fires us up.
And here’s what we are VERY clear on…
We can’t do this alone and we don’t have all the answers.
This idea is definitely not perfect (yet) and there are many things we still need to work out.
But the vision is there. And that’s why we’d love to extend an early invitation to you. We want you to be part of this… especially if you are willing to help us shape this exciting idea.
Meaning, if you join us as a founding member of Conquering Homework in Middle School, and you’re willing to contribute ideas on how we can make this THE best place to help parents help their kids get their homework done with less stress and more success, we’re willing to extend a very favorable “founding member” price.
Here’s the best part though…
Join us today as a founding member and your price will be just $20 per month. AND… you’ll be locked into that founding member price for as long as you remain a member.
So even when we do roll this out to the general public at a higher price, your price will always be the founding member price.
As I said, all the details for this are not figured out yet. And we expect some of the best ideas will come from you and others who join us as founding members.
Our goal is to launch next Tuesday, August 24th, so the doors close on Monday, August 23rd at midnight Pacific time.
Why so fast? Because, ready or not, SCHOOL IS STARTING!
So, we’re going to jump right in and things will be happening fast and furious based on the ideas flowing back and forth between us.
With all that said, what Cal and I are clear about is how the Conquering Homework community will serve all of us as we help kids get their homework done and enjoy more resilient wins at home and school. That’s what excites us. That’s why I woke up today at 5am with my mind racing a million miles a minute and just had to write this message and share it with you.
It all begins here today.
And years from now we’ll look back on this and say, “Do you remember when…?”

All you need to do is CLICK HERE.
We’ll tell you more about this opportunity over the next few days, but you should know right now that the last day to join as a founding member is Monday, August 23rd at midnight Pacific time.
Why? Because SCHOOL IS STARTING! And we are going to jump right in on Tuesday, August 24th. Hope you’ll be there with us and make this the best year yet.
Here’s to your success and to the success of our new community!
Happy Failing Forward Together,
Anne and Calvert
