Wishing You a (1% Better) Happy New Year!
Ready or not, the New Year is upon us.
I take heart this year in the agony and ecstasy of British biking.
After years of near constant crushing defeat, coach Sir Dave Brailsford changed the course of history with a daring gamble.
You see, Sir Dave was not only a cyclist, he was also a businessman. Applying the theory of marginal gains, he broke down the British cycling team’s performance and set out to improve each component by just 1%.
The result?
Four years later, at the Olympics in Beijing, 2008, they won 7 of the 10 gold medals for cycling.
Four years later, at the Olympics in London, 2012, they did it again.
Why not try the same with our own family teams?
Imagine what would happen if we broke down our performance as parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings and cousins, then set out to improve by 1%.
Could we be just 1% kinder today?
1% more patient?
1% better at listening?
Each tiny increment would start its own little shift.
Then we could stretch for the next 1%, then the next, then the next.
Where could all those tiny 1% shifts take us and our families over the next year?
Want to try it and see?
Wishing You and Yours a 1% Better and Better and Better Happy New Year,
Anne
